Sign the petition: Save Bingin
If you’ve ever walked down the steep steps to Bingin Beach, you know the feeling. That moment when the ocean appears between the cliffs. The scent of incense, the sound of waves crashing, barefoot surfers walking past and the warm “pagi” and a smile from ibu preparing a fresh kelapa from her family warung. Time slows down. You feel it: Bingin is magic.
It’s not just the sunsets or the surf. It’s the people who built this place. The local families who’ve lived here for generations. The kids who grew up with salt in their hair and dreams on the waves. The magic of Bingin lives in them.
That’s why our hearts are heavy.
Over the past days, dozens of beloved warungs, homes, homestays and cliffside businesses have been demolished. What was once a vibrant, local community has been forced to tear down what they built with love and hard work. The demolishment of Bingin Cliff isn’t just about removing buildings, it’s about erasing an authentic piece of Balinese culture and displacing a tight-knit community that defines what Bingin truly is.
It’s a heartbreaking and complicated situation, rooted in zoning and permits, but what matters most to us are the people. These are not just businesses. They are homes, legacies and lifelines.
We’ve shared more on Instagram, but we wanted to reach you here, too. Because we know so many of you love Bingin like we do. And we will pray and stay hopeful that the local community will feel and receive all the support they need right now. We know there are many things going on in the world right now and this may feel small in the bigger picture, but for Bingin, for the community, this matters deeply.
If this place holds a piece of your heart, here’s what you can do:
